I first started working with ceramics during the lockdown period of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, I was experiencing a creative slump, struggling with what to paint on canvas. In search of a different medium, I turned to ceramics. The tactile experience of shaping clay with my hands, the process of transformation through firing, and the completely unpredictable effects of ceramic glazes fascinated me. What began as a playful experiment during a period of stagnation soon became more than just a temporary diversion—it evolved into a three-dimensional sketching method for my artistic practice.
Handmade Ceramic Book from Buchbau Fest in Karlsruhe 2025
At the Buchbau Fest in Karlsruhe, I presented a handmade ceramic book that explores the intersection of materiality and storytelling. Unlike traditional paper books, this piece transforms the act of reading into a tactile experience. The weight, texture, and fragility of ceramics redefine the way we engage with a book—not just as a vessel for words, but as a sculptural object. Each page, shaped and glazed by hand, carries the traces of its making, emphasizing the physicality of time and process. Through this work, I sought to challenge conventional notions of books and narrative structures, encouraging viewers to consider reading as a sensory and spatial experience.
